Paris is a city where where you stay is just as important as the hotel itself. A beautiful hotel in the wrong neighborhood can completely change your experience — the cafés you walk past in the morning, the streets you wander at night, and how easily you can experience the version of Paris you came for.
For this guide, I chose six luxury hotels across four of Paris’s most desirable arrondissements, ranging from true five-star icons to more accessible luxury stays that I think could make anyone’s Paris Itinerary feel elevated. I’m organizing them the Parisian way: by arrondissement, Parisians consider the feeling, history, and identity of each neighborhood.
I’ve been in love with Paris ever since I started learning French at 14. After several trips to the city, I’m obsessed with finding the hotels, restaurants, and neighborhoods that actually make a Paris trip feel special — and I’m excited to share my favorite finds.
Understanding Paris’s Arrondissements
Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, which are essentially the city’s districts. Similar to boroughs, each with their own personality, architecture, restaurants, and atmosphere.
For travelers, choosing the right arrondissement can completely shape your trip. Some areas feel romantic and historic, some feel fashion-forward and modern, and others feel more local and residential. The hotels in this guide are located across four of Paris’s most desirable arrondissements: the 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 9th.
2nd Arrondissement — Cool, Modern Paris
Best for: First-time visitors, shopping, trendy restaurants
Stay here if: You want a central location with a younger, more creative energy.
The 2nd arrondissement has become one of Paris’s coolest areas. It’s trendy, lively, and full of excellent restaurants, cocktail bars, boutiques, and creative energy without feeling overwhelmingly touristy. This is the part of Paris that feels modern and editorial. Stylish but not overly polished.
Vibe: Cool, modern Paris
Nearby: Opéra Garnier, Galeries Lafayette, Palais Royal, Louvre, Place Vendôme
7th Arrondissement — Old-Money Paris
Best for: Quiet luxury, museums, classic Paris
Stay here if: You want the quintessential Paris experience with beautiful streets, cafés, and iconic landmarks nearby.
The 7th arrondissement is timeless Paris. Elegant, quiet, and incredibly picturesque, this neighborhood is home to affluent residents, diplomats, and longtime Parisians.
With the Saint-Germain-des-Prés atmosphere, charming cafés, luxury boutiques, and proximity to the Seine, this is one of the most effortlessly chic places to stay.
Vibe: Old-money Paris
Nearby: Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Le Bon Marché, Musée d’Orsay, Seine River, Louvre, Invalides
8th Arrondissement — Fashion Week Paris
Best for: Luxury shopping, iconic hotels, fashion
Stay here if: You want designer boutiques, five-star hotels, and the most polished version of Paris.
The 8th arrondissement is Paris’s luxury and business district. This is where you’ll find Avenue Montaigne, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, and the Champs-Élysées.
While some locals find the Champs-Élysées area too touristy, the surrounding residential streets and luxury shopping areas are some of the most prestigious in the city.
Vibe: Fashion week, designer boutiques, five-star hotels
Nearby: Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Avenue Montaigne, Grand Palais
9th Arrondissement — Creative and Energetic Paris
Best for: Boutiques, nightlife, cafés
Stay here if: You want a younger, more energetic side of Paris.
The 9th arrondissement has become one of Paris’s hottest neighborhoods in recent years. Popular with young professionals, it’s full of cafés, nightlife, shopping, and creative energy.
It sits near Montmartre and Pigalle, which some locals love for their character and others avoid because of crowds.
Vibe: Creative, energetic, slightly edgy
Nearby: Montmartre, Sacré-Cœur, Moulin Rouge, Opéra Garnier, Galeries Lafayette
