Christmas in the Caribbean: My Adults-Only Stay at Atlantis Bahamas

1. Atlantis has Five Different Properties

Atlantis Paradise Island consists of five distinct properties, each offering a different experience. During my stay, I chose The Cove, the most luxurious and exclusive option on the resort. While it comes at a higher price point, it is easily the best choice for adults seeking a more refined and relaxed atmosphere.

The remaining properties—the Reef, the Royal, the Coral, and the Harborside Resort—are heavily geared toward families and children. These areas felt lively and energetic, but at times crowded.

At The Cove, that was not an issue. Guests have access to an exceptional adults-only pool, upscale on-site dining for breakfast and dinner, and a private beach with cabanas and incredibly soft sand. If you are an adult traveler considering Atlantis, I highly recommend staying at The Cove for a more elevated experience.

2. Atlantis is a cashless resort

One important thing to note when planning your trip: Atlantis operates as a largely cashless resort. All on-property purchases are made using a debit card, credit card, or your room key, which charges directly to your account.

The casino is the only location that accepts cash. However, if you plan to explore beyond the resort, it’s a good idea to carry cash for taxis, local restaurants, and shopping off property.

3. taxi pricing: always confirm before you ride

This is something I wish I had seen emphasized more during my own research. If you plan on leaving the resort by taxi, always confirm the fare before getting in.

During one ride, we agreed on a price in advance, only for the driver to increase the total at the end of the trip. While the difference wasn’t extreme, it reinforced how important it is to clearly confirm pricing beforehand to avoid unnecessary issues. A quick conversation can save you frustration later.

4. Atlantis is not a traditional couple's resort

If you’re searching for a quiet, romantic escape, Atlantis may not be the best fit. The resort is designed around group experiences and family-friendly entertainment, with attractions such as a comedy club, nightclub, multiple casinos, bars, and lively pool areas.

That said, the experience varies by property. Staying at The Cove provided access to quieter spaces, including the adults-only pool where I spent most of my time. The service, food, and overall atmosphere there were consistently excellent.

5. expect a high-end price point

Atlantis is a luxury resort, and the pricing reflects that. Guests should be prepared for additional fees and gratuities added to many purchases throughout their stay.

One surprising charge was a fee to reheat food previously purchased at a resort restaurant. Since my suite did not include a microwave, warming food came at an additional cost. While the resort offers a high-end experience overall, these types of fees can feel unexpected and are worth factoring into your budget.

final thoughts

Atlantis Paradise Island is a visually stunning resort with impressive amenities, beautiful views, and attentive service. When approached with the right expectations—and by choosing the property that best fits your travel style—it can be an excellent destination for an upscale winter getaway.
