Wake Up in México City: My Favorite Hotel

When planning my annual trip for my best friend’s birthday, landing on México City was a bit of a whim. Truthfully, I hadn’t done much research on the region and had only ever visited coastal destinations like Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. But once we started looking into things to do, it became clear very quickly just how much this city has to offer. There are countless ways to explore México City, and honestly, it was overwhelming in the best way. We ended up booking most of our activities spontaneously, just a day before departure.

When visiting somewhere new, accommodations always come with a bit of risk — especially when you’re unfamiliar with the neighborhood and surroundings. But when choosing CDMX, I knew The Mondrian Condesa wouldn’t disappoint. More to come on my stay earlier this year at The Mondrian Ibiza with Dis-loyalty, a travel and membership program!

The Mondrian hotel group has never failed to impress me with its commitment to going above and beyond. When I travel, a stylish, design-forward boutique hotel like The Mondrian is always my first and favorite choice. With elevated attention to detail, prime locations, and a consistently vibrant atmosphere, this hotel group delivers a well-rounded experience every time I’m abroad. The Mondrian Condesa was nothing short of fantastic — meeting all of my expectations and then exceeding them. Set on a stunning property in a perfect location shared with The Andaz, you truly won’t want to stay anywhere else.

Starting strong, the property itself is expansive, and tucked inside the Andaz side of the hotel is Derba Matcha Café. Safe to say, this was the best matcha I’ve ever had — no exaggeration. I have several matcha rankings, and you can check those out here. Derba is a beautiful café, and the products fully live up to the hype in both freshness and quality. The prices weren’t bad either.

After a bite to eat and a matcha straight off the plane, we were able to check in early, and our room was already ready for us. Since we were celebrating my best friend’s birthday, we booked a double-bed suite for five days and four nights, totaling $900. We split the cost evenly, so my portion came out to around $450, which I paid upon check-in. While a bit pricey for México City, this rate did include daily breakfast.

We didn’t book directly through The Mondrian — instead, we used Booking.com. I currently hold Tier 2 access on Booking.com, which helped bring the price down. This property, along with many other Mondrian hotels, is also available through Dis-loyalty (my usual go-to), but our preferred dates were sold out. All in all, don’t be afraid to book through third-party providers. You can — and should — always confirm directly with the property after booking.

As mentioned, the property is massive, with so much to enjoy on-site. There’s a gym, spa, rooftop, local gift shop, and multiple bars and restaurants available to guests. Beyond that, the hotel sits in a prime Condesa location, with plenty to do just steps away. The neighborhood felt extremely safe, and we were very comfortable walking around freely.

You can easily stroll over to Parque México, grabbing a churro or frozen yogurt along the way. There are multiple vintage shops, taco stands, and chic, effortlessly cool bars and restaurants perfect for late nights. One evening, we used a free drink coupon for the hotel’s rooftop bar to celebrate my friend’s birthday. While the hotel wasn’t overly crowded during this time of year, it was still lively. México City is massive — something you notice the moment you arrive — yet the hotel itself remained calm and relaxing. It struck the perfect balance between energy and serenity.

I would return to this hotel immediately if given the chance. I genuinely loved my stay, and the staff were consistently attentive and helpful. Excellence is the standard you expect — and receive — at any Mondrian. It’s refreshing and reassuring to know you’re getting exactly what you pay for (and deserve) when unwinding on holiday.

Come back next week for more, and as always, thank you so much for reading.

Xoxo, Feline Shores
